Wow the world! China International Dinosaur Lantern Fair, a visual feast not to be missed

The 31st Zigong Dinosaur International Lantern Festival commenced on January 17, 2025, showcasing a magnificent array of lanterns that illuminated the night sky. This annual event, held in the historic city of Zigong, China, attracts thousands of visitors from around the world who come to marvel at the stunning lantern displays and experience the vibrant local culture. 

The festival features lanterns of various shapes and sizes, depicting traditional Chinese stories, local legends, and contemporary themes. The lanterns are crafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques, ensuring a blend of artistry and tradition. In addition to the lanterns, the festival also offers a range of cultural activities, including folk performances, traditional crafts workshops, and local cuisine tastings, providing a comprehensive and immersive experience for the attendees. 

The 31st Zigong Dinosaur International Lantern Festival not only celebrates the rich cultural heritage of China but also serves as a platform for international cultural exchange and cooperation.

Its theme is “Lanterns Celebrate China – Weathering a Thousand Scenes.” 

It is the main venue for “Intangible Cultural Heritage Celebrates the New Spring – Light Up Chinese Lanterns.” It attracted many tourists from home and abroad. The festival set a historical record for size. It had seven theme areas. It also had 12 extra-large lantern groups, seven large ones, and over 200 smaller ones. The “Qingcheng Twin Beauties” lantern group was 70 meters long. It was inspired by “The Legend of the White Snake.” It became a popular online attraction. Many tourists came to take photos. 

The festival combined traditional skills with new technology. For example, a lantern group was made with 600,000 medicine bottles and porcelain. AI technology allowed dinosaurs to interact with tourists. This gave traditional culture new life. It provided tourists with a new experience. 

Zigong Lantern Festival is known as “The Best Lanterns in the World.” It lit up the intangible cultural heritage Spring Festival. It also provided a visual feast for tourists. This feast combined history, technology, and festival joy. It used smart services and better traffic.

This time, I will take you on a tour of the 31st International Dinosaur Lantern Festival from my perspective. As I step into the currently most popular “Green City Twin Beauties” exhibition area at the Zigong Lantern Festival, I feel as if I’ve been transported to a fantastical world. Before me stand the 18-meter-tall Bai Suzhen and the 14-meter-tall Xiaoqing, gazing intently at each other. 
 
Their graceful figures and exquisite features seem to have stepped right out of the novel and into reality. The lantern group is primarily in shades of green and blue, complemented by dazzling special effects that exude an ethereal charm. Visitors around me are all stopping to take photos, and I too am deeply captivated by this unique oriental charm.

This is just one of the many popular attractions at this year’s Zigong International Lantern Festival. In addition, the festival features seven themed areas, including “Welcoming Spring and Celebrating the New Year,” “Brilliant China,” and “Dinosaur Valley.” There’s something for everyone!

Throughout the course of the event, each evening is graced with a spectacular drone show featuring 600 drones. These drones light up the night sky in a choreographed display, creating mesmerizing patterns and shapes that leave the audience in awe.

Additionally, the traditional dragon and lion dances take the stage, bringing a vibrant and lively atmosphere to the festivities. The performers, adorned in colorful costumes, skillfully manipulate the dragon and lion puppets, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of China.

The traditional Chinese IP lanterns also add a magical touch to the surroundings. These lanterns, often featuring iconic Chinese characters and stories, are intricately designed and illuminated, casting a warm and enchanting glow across the area. As these various performances take turns unfolding, they collectively enhance the overall experience for the visitors, making each moment spent at the event truly memorable.
