Chinese Lanterns, also known as flower lanterns (花灯), are an indispensable part of traditional Chinese culture. With a history that goes back thousands of years, lanterns are a unique symbol of Chinese civilization. They carry people’s aspirations for a better life and their blessings, and they represent a pinnacle of traditional Chinese craftsmanship and aesthetics.
The star of the show is the 18-meter-tall Mecha Sun Wukong—a colossal fusion of steel, silk, and mechanics. Standing as tall as a six-story building, this installation proves that lantern art has evolved into large-scale architectural engineering.
The most eye-catching “Qingcheng Shuangshu” lantern group of the Zigong Lantern Fair in 2024 is precisely this modern expression of the worship of the spirit snake. In the splendor of the millennium salt capital, two eight meters high snake fairies dance in the sky, they shed the traditional white snake legend of the supernatural temperament.
By February 20, 2025, the Zigong Lantern Festival had welcomed over 1 million visitors during Spring Festival, breaking all previous records. The Zigong Lantern Festival is famous for its expert craftsmanship. It’s no wonder people call it a masterpiece of craftsmanship.
This time, I will take you on a tour of the 31st International Dinosaur Lantern Festival from my perspective. As I step into the currently most popular “Green City Twin Beauties” exhibition area at the Zigong Lantern Festival, I feel as if I’ve been transported to a fantastical world.
